Should your business be using AI? Ask an auditor, not a salesperson.

David Perkins, founder of Perkins SmartOps

David Perkins spent fifteen years as an internal auditor: the person who tells you what is working, what is broken, and what is worth fixing. In a free 30-minute session he gives you the same straight read on AI and automation, where they would pay back in your business and where they would not.

No pitch and no vendor commission. If AI is not worth it for your business yet, that is exactly what you will hear.

Certified internal auditor

Certified with the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors.

Fifteen years of process audit

Auditing business processes across professional services, government, and tech.

Independent

No licences sold. No vendor pays us commission on anything we recommend.

You own everything we build

Your accounts, your systems, your off switch. Your data stays in your business.

Why an auditor

Everyone selling AI is paid when you say yes. An auditor is trained to check first.

You would not ask the company selling you a system whether you need it. That is the problem with taking AI advice from the people selling AI. An internal auditor works the other way round: look at how the business actually runs, find the issues, weigh the risks, and only then say what deserves your money and time.

01

What is worth doing

The handful of jobs in your business where AI and automation would genuinely pay back, measured in hours and pounds, not in demos.

02

What is not worth doing

The jobs better left with a person, fixed with a simpler process change, or not touched at all. This list is usually longer, and nobody selling AI will give it to you.

03

What the risks are

Where your data would go, what happens when the AI gets something wrong, and which controls need to be in place before anything runs on its own.

What it costs

If the session leads somewhere, here are your options. Prices included.

Most consultancies quote after a sales call. Here are our prices up front. These are separate options, not steps in a sequence: pick whichever fits, and you can go straight to any of them. Everything paid starts from a diagnosis, and nothing gets built unless the numbers say it pays back.

Orientation

Free strategy session

Free · 30 minutes

Best for you if you want a straight answer on whether AI and automation are worth exploring at all.

A look at how your business runs now and where to start. Nothing to prepare, nothing to buy.

The numbers

Time and Money Map

£495, all-in

Best for you if you want the numbers for your own business, not industry averages.

A two-hour call, then a written map of your three biggest opportunities: what each is worth in your own hours and pounds, and what it costs to build. Go ahead within 30 days and the £495 comes off.

The direction

AI and Automation Strategy Audit

£1,995 · single site

Best for you if you want direction for the whole firm, not just a first project.

A full independent review: what is worth doing, what is not, the risks and controls, and a prioritised roadmap. Covers a single site of up to around five departments; a larger or multi-department firm costs more, and you get a fixed quote first.

The build

AI and Automation Builds

From £1,495 · fixed quote after diagnosis

Best for you if the diagnosis found something worth building.

Only what the diagnosis showed pays back, built on systems you own with a payback target agreed first. Stop paying us tomorrow and it all keeps running.

Prices are the full amount. We are not VAT registered, so there is no VAT on top.

Common questions

Before you book.

Is it really free?
Yes. Thirty minutes, no fee, no obligation. It is the conversation we would want to have before recommending anything, so it would be odd to charge for it. If something is worth doing after the call, you will know exactly what it costs before you commit to anything.
What happens on the call?
David asks about your business: what you do, where the hours go, what you have already tried with AI. Then you get a straight read on where AI and automation look worth exploring for you, where they do not, and what a sensible first step would be. You leave with a clearer picture either way.
Are you going to sell me software?
No. We do not sell licences and no vendor pays us commission. We sell independent advice and, where the numbers justify it, we build automations that run on systems you own. If the honest answer is that what you have is fine for now, that is the answer you get.
What about our data?
The session is a conversation, not a data-collection exercise, and we do not need access to your systems for it. If we go on to build something for you, it runs on accounts your business owns, so your data stays under your control. Where a build sends data to an AI provider, we tell you exactly what goes where and what the provider does with it before anything is switched on. That is part of the risk-and-controls thinking you are getting.
